The School of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh intends to appoint three Chancellor’s Fellows in the coming months, ONE of which will be in RELIGIOUS STUDIES, with the aim of having the positions start in SEPTEMBER 2012.

These prestigious awards are aimed at early career scholar-teachers of the highest potential who have begun to establish a reputation for research at the forefront of their discipline and who have a commitment to teaching at the university level.  The Fellowship will be held for 5 years, subject to satisfactory review at the end of year 3, and the Fellow will then move to a standard University academic open-ended contract.

The first year of the Fellowship will focus on establishing the Fellow`s research programme, with a limited amount of teaching. Fellows will be expected to submit an appropriate number of high quality research submissions to REF2014. Teaching and administration will gradually increase over the 5-year period to that of a normal academic load in the School of Divinity.

The School of Divinity expectS to appoint a Chancellor’s Fellow in each of three Subject Areas – Christian Ethics and Practical Theology, World Christianity and RELIGIOUS STUDIES:

*RELIGIOUS STUDIES: any substantive field or tradition in the Study of Religions that can enhance and extend the existing Subject Area profile, including strong theoretical and methodological interests*

University of Central Florida Announcement

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a tenure earning Assistant Professor position in Religious and Cultural Studies with primary research focus in Asian cultural contexts beginning in August 2012.  This is a 9-month position with an expected teaching load (pre-tenure) of 5 courses per academic year, with the possibility of optional summer teaching. The position is pending budgetary approval.

A Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a related field from an accredited university is required (all requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed by May 15, 2012), as is experience teaching at the college level.

The successful candidate will have a research specialization in the study of religion and culture in (one or several) Asian contexts. The successful candidate must be able to teach theory and method courses in religious/cultural studies. Demonstrated teaching competence in teaching introductory World Religion classes is preferred, as is experience with teaching large classes and/or experience or willingness to develop web-based instruction.

The successful candidate’s research focus in specific Asian contexts might include traditions such as Jainism, Sikhism, Shinto, Chinese traditions, or other South-, East-, or South-East-Asian traditions, or the research might focus on changing forms of Buddhism or Hinduism in different geographic or historical areas, or might focus on other forms of practice (including ritual, material culture, etc.) that exist in conversation with these traditions. A focus on contemporary forms of religion and culture is preferred, but candidates with specialization in other historical periods are also encouraged to apply.
