The Most Embarrassing Book Meme

I’m enjoying this too much, so I couldn’t help myself—I pulled a few more embarrassing books off my shelf today.

According to this book, we are not free unless we’re free to obey Jesus—not necessarily unusual for a conservative Christian treatise. However, for some strange reason there is a picture of a police badge, a blindfolded man, a ball and chain, and handcuffs on the cover. Not sure what that’s about. I’ll leave the interpretation of unconscious desires to Freud.

The chapter on “Dealing with Communists” includes sentences such as the following: “The true Communist lives his life in utter obedience to the mind and will of the Party. At its slightest wish he will lie, cheat, or kill; he will inflict or suffer the most intense torture; the individual is naught, the Party is all.” I’m glad I’m a socialist and not a communist.

Confessions of an Organized Housewife. Yes, you read that right.

Now, finally, I begin to be impressed. Though I kind of wonder where I can get a copy of that last one.

Is that guy with the lightning bolt on the cover of the first one some kind of proto-Harry Potter?
